The Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the departure of men’s soccer head coach Mark Worton on December 19, 2023.

The University of Waterloo is accepting applications for the Men’s Soccer Head Coach role for the 2024-2025 season. Worton, had decided to leave the program and concentrate on his senior leadership duties at Burlington Soccer Club in a role that he is starting in 2024.

During his tenure, Coach Worton achieved a career record of 28-42-18. In 2022, he led the Warriors to an impressive 7-6-2 record and a spot in the OUA semifinals after upsetting the No. 1 York Lions. Additionally, Worton received the OUA West Division Coach of the Year award in 2018 for his work with the team’s 7-8-3 record.

‘We would like to thank Mark Worton for his 7 years of service to the university and the men’s soccer program and wish him success in his new role with Soccer Club Burlington’, commented Associate Director, Athletics Brian Bourque.

The Waterloo Warriors are now initiating the process of searching for the next men’s soccer head coach.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coaching, recruiting, and administering the varsity men’s soccer program. Applicants should possess a university degree, current coaching accreditation, and significant coaching experience at the university level or equivalent high-performance experience. Candidates must also exhibit superior interpersonal, organizational, leadership, coaching, and technical skills.

The University of Waterloo athletic department is committed to providing a high-quality student-athlete experience, including access to academic support, student-athlete resources, and financial support for coaches to obtain coaching certifications.
