2022 Canada West Women’s Soccer Playoffs

After some heart-stopping play-in games, the intensity that is the Canada West Women’s Soccer Playoffs ramps up even higher Friday with single-elimination quarterfinal games.
The top-ranked UBC Thunderbirds host the Regina Cougars, the provincial rivals Alberta Pandas and Calgary Dinos meet in Edmonton, Thompson Rivers visits Mount Royal and the Saskatchewan Huskies head to Trinity Western in what promises to be a weekend of exciting action.
Trinity Western will be seeking its second-straight and 10th overall conference title, while Calgary and Alberta look to get back on top for the first time in a few years. The UBC Thunderbirds come in as the number one seed after suffering just a single loss all year. A storied program with a rich history, the T-Birds will look to ride their regular season momentum right to the CW banner.
Looking to stop them this weekend will be the Regina Cougars, who are hungry for their first-ever CW title. The other Cougars, Mount Royal, are also seeking their first championship, starting with a battle at home against another program that has yet to see the top of the CW women’s soccer podium, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. The Saskatchewan Huskies are also looking to make a statement after taking down some tough opponents in the regular season.
Each team will put it all on the line in their most important games of 2022 yet.

Here’s a look at who to watch in this weekend’s slate of matches:
Mount Royal (10-3-1, First in Prairie Division) vs. Thompson Rivers (6-6-2) Fourth in Pacific Division) – Saturday 1 p.m. MT at MRU Stadium Field (Calgary)

- Who to Watch:
- Second-year goalkeeper Lizzy Knight (Mount Royal) was the only goalie to rank top four in Canada West for both saves (75, second) and save percentage (.824, fourth).
- Third-year forward Emily Clark accounted for half of TRU’s game-winning goals during the regular season, scoring three of them to tie for fourth in Canada West.
Trinity Western (9-2-3, Second in Pacific Division) vs. Saskatchewan Huskies (7-4-3, Third in Prairie Division) – Friday 7:30 p.m. PT at Chase Office Field (Langley)

- Who to Watch:
- Fourth-year goalkeeper Hannah Miller played in all 14 matches during the season for the Spartans and ranked first in Canada West with seven shutouts.
- Second-year forward Naleya Kobussen, a 2021 Canada West women’s soccer All-Rookie Team selection, led the Huskies with three assists this season.
Alberta (9-4-1, Second in Prairie Division) vs. Calgary (9-3-2, Third in Pacific Division) – Saturday 12 p.m. PT at Foote Field (Edmonton)

- Who to Watch:
- Third-year Calgary forward Rachel Barlow led Canada West during the regular season for both total assists, 11, and assist per game, 0.786.
- Second-year Pandas midfielder Adrienne Poulin was one of four Canada West players with double-figures in goals, scoring 10 on a conference-high 31 shots on goal.
UBC (13-1, First in Pacific Division) vs. Regina (2-7-5, Fifth in Prairie Division) – Friday 6:30 p.m. PT at Thunderbird Stadium (Vancouver)

- Who to Watch:
- Fifth-year forward Danielle Steer (UBC) led Canada West during the regular season with 22 points, scoring 14 goals and recording eight assists in 14 games.
- Third-year defender Sophia Stevens led the Cougars with four assists, and scored twice, including the late equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Manitoba on Sept. 24.
