Sein Furuyama Sets New ACAC Women’s Soccer Single-Season Scoring Record

It was a historic day on October 16, 2022 for rookie Sein Furuyama who broke the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Single Season Goal Record with 27 goals.
The previous record was held by Kayla Michaels of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks, who scored 26 goals in 2014-2015.
Furyama would score her 26th and 27th in the 7-0 victory over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.
But that is not the only record that was shattered today in ACAC soccer by Red Deer Polytechnic.
The Queens came into the match scoring a total of 77 goals over 10 games which tied them with the 2019-2020 NAIT Ooks women’s squad for the most goals in a season.
In today’s game against the Rattlers, they would break the record in the eighth minute with a goal scored by defender Kailey Clark. The record shattering goal was assisted by second-year Corbynn Fujimoto.
But Fujimoto and the Queens were not done there. The second year forward would score an unassisted goal in the 14th minute.
Two minutes later, Furuyama would make it 3-0 and tie Michaels for the most goals in a single season. This would do it for the scoring in the first half. The Queens severely outshot the Rattlers, 21-2 in the first 45 minutes.
10 minutes into the second half, Queens Captain Alisha Coules, who is known for her assists more then her goals, would make it 4-0. Defender Sofia Quinteros would get the assist on the goalQuinteros would add a goal for herself five minutes later in the second half with a helper from cross-country runner and forward, Jenica Swartz.
In the 68th minute history was made. Furuyama would receive a pass from Coules and put it in the back of the net for her 27th goal of the season which earned a spot in the ACAC record book. She now has sole position of the most goals in a single ACAC season by a women’s soccer player.
The Queens captain would finish off the game with her second of the match in the 72nd minute and Red Deer would cruise to a 7-0 victory over the Rattlers.
First-year keeper Danyelle Bouvier only had to steer aside one shot for her third shutout of the season.
The Queens would finish off this dominance performance and their 10th consecutive victory with 39 total shots.
Red Deer has not lost since their opening game against the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Trojans when they were defeated 4-3. In this time, they have only conceded seven goals.
Lacombe-native Jenica Swartz was named the player of the game for the Queens with one assist and two shots. Forward Maisa Rebello was honored with the award for the Rattlers for her effort in the match.
Next up for Sein and her Red Deer teammates is the winner of a “play in” game.
