The Rankings Continue To Perplex Observers As TMU, Ontario Tech and UBC Shake Up The USPORTS Men’s Soccer Top 10
So in a week that was not nearly as dramatic as the Women’s weekly rankings, it appears that the “coefficient” is the real “talk of the town” in the USPORTS Men’s weekly Top 10.
At some point someone has to do the math, because it doesn’t quite appear to add up. It begs to wonder how the Number 5 Ontario Tech Ridgebacks who this past weekend defeated the previously higher ranked Number 6 Carleton Ravens for the second time this season, 2-1 at Vaso’s Field, and are sitting in first place in the OUA East, ahead of the Number 4 TMU Bold, with a better win percentage are ranked behind said Bold? This comes even after the two teams have split the season series. I am not a math major, but it kind of doesn’t add up. No offence to Filip Prostan’s Number 4 TMU Bold, but I am confused and I smell a story down the road to explain the Coefficient.
That being said with five teams in the national rankings and only two spots going to Nationals, the OUA playoffs are going to be very juicy this fall.
As previously stated, the Number 5 Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (10-1-0) continue to climb the U SPORTS Men’s Soccer ranking following a 2-1 defeat over Number 6 Carleton Ravens (6-2-2) on Saturday. The Ridgebacks moved up two positions, as have the Number 8 UBC Thunderbirds (8-3-2), who after a uncharacteristic shaky start to the 2022 campaign, are back where they belong, scored two wins on the weekend. Number 4 Toronto Metropolitan (8-2-0) moved up one position with another two quiet wins.
After a pair of ties in Canada West action, U SPORTS Men’s Soccer sees Number 7 Mount Royal (8-0-4) drop three places after Friday’s scoreless draw with Saskatchewan and Sunday’s 2-2 score with Lethbridge.
The 2022-23 U SPORTS Men’s Soccer regular season is scheduled to end on Oct. 29.
