One thing is for certain as the PACWEST opens the 2022 soccer season on Saturday. That certainty is that the Langara Falcons will play in the CCAA national championship regardless of how the regular season unfolds. They are the official hosts of the tournament which will be held November 9-12 in Langley and they are one of the eight finalists.
Excitement has already begun building as the Falcons are trying to get back to the top of the CCAA mountain for the first time since back-to-back championships in 1999 and 2000.
2021 in Review: The Falcons finished with 14 points in the regular season after a 4-3-2 record and were the second seed heading into the PACWEST playoffs. In the semi-final against the VIU Mariners they couldn’t solve the keeper and fell 1-0 ending their season with heartbreak.
One Player to Know: Athos Michellepis de Siqueira returns after his All-Star season from a year ago. He finished with three goals last season and led all Falcons goal scorers.
One Key Stat: Head coach Marc Rizzardo is back for another PACWEST campaign and has been patrolling the same sideline for over 30 years. He is a highly respected coach and every single season gets the best out of his players despite usually having a young roster. This year will be no different especially as his club is preparing to host the national championship.
One Key Fact: The Falcons have the privilege of being represented by several countries on their roster including four Japanese players and a host of others that speak Portuguese.
This coming weekend the Falcons will open the PACWEST season with a home and home with the defending PACWEST champion Douglas Royals, the first game is set for Saturday at Swangard Stadium.
