With Canadian Premier League side Cavalry FC finishing as the regular season champions last season, it’s no surprise to see the Alberta-based club secured head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. to a brand new three-year deal.
The club’s head coach has picked up two Coach of the Year awards whilst in Canada’s top flight, where he’s one of just two original head coaches left standing amongst the league’s original launch teams who kicked off in 2019.
Under Tommy’s guidance, Cavalry has secured itself a strong reputation as a consistent title contender and a premier developer of domestic talent, with many players progressing on to play at higher levels while the club has retained a constant postseason presence.
Cavalry picked up the first-ever regular season title in 2019, repeating the feat last season by a margin of some thirteen points to hoist the first-ever CPL Shield, though they fell to rival side Forge in the playoff final.
“Many things in professional sports are difficult; working alongside Tommy Wheeldon Jr. is not,” said Cavalry COO and President Ian Allison, who describes the head coach as part of the club’s DNA.
