Valour Adds Former Rovers GM As Manager Of Soccer Operations

From Barrie to Winnipeg with bells on.
Valour FC has named former Simcoe County Rovers GM Ali Sozeri as the Canadian Premier League side’s new Manager of Soccer Operations, late last week.
Sozeri helped the Rovers through the club’s inaugural season, cementing themselves as a professional-looking side despite League1 Ontario’s semi-pro stature and reaching playoffs with both its men’s and women’s sides.
While he wasn’t with the club through all of the 2023 L1O season, those building blocks saw the side go on to earn Ontario’s only berth in the Canadian Championship for a semi-professional club, for which they’ll now face heavyweight side Toronto FC next month.
Sozeri becomes the second Rovers executive to take a big step upwards after co-owner Julian De Guzman was recruited by New York Red Bulls as their new sporting director this year.
“I’m excited to have joined Valour FC as the Manager of Soccer Operations, and look forward to contributing to the success and growth of the organization,” said Ali online.
Valour head coach Phil Dos Santos had said earlier that he had been given the green light to hire a full-time head of performance, though it’s unclear if Ali is that reinforcement as he comes in with a different title.
