Gutsy Victory Bumps Cape Breton To Number 1 In U SPORTS Men’s Soccer
The Cape Breton Capers (10-0-2) are the new team to beat in Men’s Soccer following a battle of the top two AUS teams on Thursday and the shocking loss in the OUA playoffs of the former Number 1 York Lions to the new Number 10 Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon.
The Capers scored a gutsy 2-1 victory over the visiting UNB REDS at Ness Timmons Field right before they wrapped up their regular season campaign, carrying their winning streak into Friday’s 3-1 defeat over the visiting Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus. The Capers are undefeated this season.
Number 8 StFX X-Men re-enter, while Number 9 Alberta Golden Bears join the ranking following last week’s matches, along with the Number 7 McMaster Marauders. The X-Men tied Moncton 2-2 on Thursday to then claim a 1-0 clean sheet over UNB on Friday, while the Golden Bears landed a 5-0 shutout victory over UNBC in Canada West Quarterfinal action. The Marauders for their part in OUA playoff action, outlasted the Guelph Gryphons 2-1.
With the losses of the York Lions, the Guelph Gryphons, the Carleton Ravens and the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks this past weekend in the OUA, there is a major shake up in the USPORTS Top 10.
Conference championships will be contested this week.
