Fleming College Women’s Soccer Head Coach Mario Bambino Passes Away

Current Fleming Women’s Head Soccer Coach and and long time former Durham College Men’s Assistant Soccer Coach Mario Bombino passed away on Friday morning shortly after 2:00 am at the Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa with his two daughters by his side.
Mario the the eldest of the Bombino soccer brothers, was a member of his brother Stan’s staff at Durham College for the 16 years that Stan was the head coach of the program bringing home a CCAA National bronze medal in 1999 and a couple of OCAA Provincial medals.
After leaving Durham in 2014, it became a “Family Affair” at Fleming College where Mario and Stan joined younger brother Tony in Peterborough in an attempt to replicate the previous successes of Durham at the Peterborough area college. Starting out as an assistant for Tony, Mario soon moved into the Head Coach’s position with the Women soon after Stan moved into the Program head position with the college.
Mario was well known in in soccer circles throughout the Durham region and the GTA with the work he did with various teams over the years, especially on the women’s side of the game.
In 2009, he was part of a staff that took a team from Woodbridge to Italy for an international tournament to represent Canada where they played teams representing England, Belgium, Italy and Norway with then Women’s National team head coach Carolina Morace as part of the staff.
Coach Mario is resting at DeStefano funeral Home https://destefanofuneralhomes.ca/1/Home.html in Oshawa, with visitation taking place on Tuesday and funeral services on Wednesday July 7, 2021 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm .
